9/11 999 Coastal Challenge

This year is the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 tragedy when 2,819 people - including 343 firefighters - lost their lives in the attack on New York’s World Trade Centre in 2001, in a bid to raise money for the New York Fire Department Foundation and the UK Fire Fighters Charity, a team from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service which includes Rescue 3 Instructors will attempt to circumnavigate the UK coastline in a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) in 9 days, 9 hours and 9 minutes.

Local Radio stations will be giving us their support during the challenge, the route we are taking is:

  • 10th Sept Southampton
  • 11th Sept Padstow
  • 12th Sept Pwllheli
  • 13h Sept Whitehaven
  • 14th Sept Mallaig
  • 15th Sept Scrabster
  • 16th Sept St Andrews
  • 17th Sept Bridlington
  • 18th Sept Ramsgate
  • 18th Sept Southampton

Every year, thousands of fire fighters are injured whilst protecting the public. Every 30 seconds in the UK, fire fighters are called to an incident, putting their lives on the line, and often sustaining physical injuries whilst carrying out their duties. The Fire Fighters Charity is here for all fire service personnel during their times of need, and assists thousands of individuals every year, by providing pioneering treatment and support services.
