The Safe Working in Confined Spaces (Low and Medium Risk. Horizontal and Vertical) (SWCSHV) course provides insight into the dangers that workers face when working in confined spaces and the applicable legislation in this area. The course covers safe systems of work for entry into low and medium risk confined spaces, and core skills such as air monitoring, ventilation and horizontal and vertical access/egress into confined spaces.

- Personal safety
- Safe systems of work for confined space entry
- Isolation – lock-out, tag-out, try-out
- Introduction to air monitoring
- Personal and team equipment
- Entry procedures
- Communications and verbal commands
- Introduction to loads and forces
- Respiratory protective equipment (RPE) – escape sets
- Use of a 4-gas diffuse meter
- Introduction to confined space ventilation
- Knots and terminations
- Anchor systems
- Dynamic risk assessment and safety checks
- On-scene safety briefing and site control
- Standard tripod configurations and mechanical hoisting
- Work restraint
- Vertical confined space entry and exit
- Emergency procedures
